Julie Starkey and Hannah Starkey-Morris
‘Julie lives with her husband in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Their home is on a small acreage of heritage-listed bushland on the outskirts of the town of Wilmington. Julie has made frequent trips to Broome over the past seven years to be with her daughter and her daughter’s family. It was during one of these visits that Julie and granddaughter Hannah put pen and paintbrush to paper and created the manuscript for SAFE Ruby.
Julie has shared her life with many animals and has been vegan for the past 15 years.’
‘Hannah leads an active life in Broome. She can often be found upside-down in the middle of cartwheels and handstands. She laughs a lot and checks out the good light in Broome while walking ‘Ruby Dog’ on Cable Beach with her family.’
SAFE Ruby was written by Julie Starkey and illustrated by her granddaughter, Hannah Starkey-Morris, when Hannah was four years old.
