National Year of Reading

Inspired by the National Year of Reading, Backroom Press members inaugurated the Broome Writers Festival – Corrugated Lines: A Festival of Words.  (Link to Corrugated Lines page.)
We celebrated National Indigenous Literacy Day by donating books across the Kimberley to forty-one schools from all three systems – Government, Catholic and Independent.

Launch of Bobby’s Surprise

Kerry Anne Jordinson’s second book Bobby’s Surprise was launched at the Broome Courthuose Markets. Activities for the children in attendance were a welcome addition to the usual round of speeches. Paper and pencils were provided for young artists to draw their versions of Bobby while everyone with a black and white dog was invited to bring it along to see which one was most like the ‘real’ Bobby.
One of the original drawings from the book was donated by the author and offered for sale via silent auction. All proceeds were donated to SAFE, a local animal welfare organisation.

Workshops

Our third community workshop ‘How to Get Published’ was presented by Backroom Press members, Pat Lowe and Joyce Hudson with Magabala Books’ Jacqui Wright as a Corrugated Lines session. Writers with near completed manuscripts were invited to learn more about the dos and don’ts of publishing.
