FESTIVAL OF WORDS 2016
Corrugated Lines: A Festival of Words is a community event that is held in the first week of August. It celebrates all forms of reading, writing and storytelling.
Corrugated Lines (CL) was conceived by Backroom Press Inc in 2012 as part of the National Year of Reading. An enjoyable weekend became the first chapter in the CL story and the festival soon became an annual event.
Through CL we celebrate the wealth of talent the Kimberley region has to offer in the way of writers, storytellers and artists.
The festival is run by a group of volunteers drawn from several organisations and businesses. These change from year to year and include Backroom Press, Magabala Books, Broome Public Library, Broome Visitor Centre, University of Notre Dame Australia Broome Campus, Sisters of St John of God Heritage Centre, Broome Bird Observatory, Nyamba Buru Yawuru, Dept of Education, ABC Open, Environs Kimberley, Kimberley Bookshop, Kimberley Training Institute, Broome Advertiser.
Corrugated Lines is unfunded except for input in cash and kind from out-of town speakers and local contributors. The organisers are pleased to offer inspirational events for local lovers of words and like-minded visitors to Broome and the Kimberley.
We invite you to join us in any capacity you please: as an audience member, speaker, visiting author, presenter or event organiser.

Bringing Stories to life: An introduction to illustrating children’s books with Kerry Jordinson – Sunday 7th August 2.30 (Bernardine Room, 9 Barker St)
‘We had a really fun afternoon and the time just flew by! Kerry was very encouraging and put us all at ease. She had a great balance of information, mainly from her own experience, and passion. I certainly went away feeling more confident to have a go at bringing a story to life through illustration – although will need a fair amount of practice!’ Sarah, a workshop participant.
